Convert a DOCX in four steps
- Open the Word to PDF tool and choose a standard .docx file. Legacy .doc and macro-enabled .docm files are not supported.
- Read the local checks. The page shows the device's current file and page limits and warns when it detects complex document features.
- Select Convert best-effort PDF. The supported conversion renders the DOCX in this browser, then assembles a PDF here rather than sending the document to a Caspenda processing server.
- Download the result and inspect every page in a PDF viewer. Keep the original DOCX until you have checked the output.
What kind of PDF will you get?
Caspenda produces an image-based PDF. Its pages can be viewed and printed, but the Word text is not selectable or searchable as text in the exported file. This matters if the recipient needs to copy passages, search the document or use text-based accessibility features.
Paper size and saved page-break hints are handled where supported. Browser fonts, spacing and pagination can still differ from Microsoft Word. A matching page count by itself does not prove that every line, table and image is in the right place.
When should you use Word's own PDF export?
Choose Word's built-in export or a trusted desktop office suite when exact layout, selectable text, accessibility, tracked changes, comments or complex tables and charts matter. Caspenda's browser converter is a practical fallback for ordinary DOCX files when local processing is the priority.
Check the result before sharing
- Compare the first and last pages, headings, tables and page breaks with the DOCX.
- Check any page where a long paragraph crosses a boundary.
- Open the PDF in a second viewer if its layout or paper size is important.
- If something moved or disappeared, use a native Office export instead of assuming the conversion is faithful.
What did we test?
In our September 2026 browser QA, an ordinary two-page DOCX retained two pages, an A3 sample retained A3 geometry, and a long A4 paragraph became nine pages on desktop and a 390px mobile viewport. We inspected the page boundaries after a wrapping fix. These examples are regression checks, not a guarantee for every Word document or device.
